Education and ExperienceI have a Master's degree in Counselling and Creative Arts Therapies that I obtained in 2002, and have also completed a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, with a Depth-oriented Clinical focus in 2018. I've been working in the field of mental health providing counselling, crisis intervention, psychoeducation, and group facilitation for over 20 years. I am a Registered Psychologist (#2838) in good standing with The College of Psychologists of BC (CPBC).
From a professional standpoint, I have been working in the field of mental health and counselling for over 20 years. I've immersed myself in a broad range of clinical environments; including: EFAP, government, hospitals/ER's, community outpatient clinics, private residential treatment centers, and non-profit agencies. I've worked with people who have a host of different issues and struggles, some of which have followed them for much of their lives. I've helped people with eating disorders, psychiatric conditions, mental health issues like depression and anxiety, alcohol and substance use disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder, to name a few. I have also been extremely fortunate to obtain ongoing, specialized, and intensive training in the field of trauma treatment, by world-renowned and board-certified trauma experts. My research and clinical interests are in PTSD and Complex Trauma. I've also worked in the field of sexual violence, incest and abuse for over 6 years. My passion is to help both men and women overcome these hardships with grace, courage and dignity. I rely on evidence-based best practices in treatment, and use interventions tailored around CBT (cognitive-behavioral) and DBT (dialectical-behavioral) models. I also incorporate somatic approaches, motivational interviewing, solution-focused treatment, insight-oriented therapy, family systems models, relational and interpersonal therapy, and psychodynamically-informed interventions into my work. Of note, I have trained with several well-known trauma experts over a number of years, in my efforts to continue providing high quality, evidence-based therapeutic care to clients in my clinical practice. Ultimately, I tailor my interventions for each individual client and strive to meet you where you are at in your journey. My hope is to offer you with a variety of different coping skills that could help alleviate your distress. And because I don't rigidly adhere to any one particular treatment model, I strive to incorporate a variety of treatment interventions that could best respond to your needs. |
